World's Largest Mining Exhibition Rolls Out 9/24-26, Breaking All Past Records
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Mining Association's (NMA) quadrennial exposition, MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2012 rolls into the Las Vegas Convention Center September 24-26, 2012, featuring fascinating visuals you will see nowhere else. The sheer size and scope of this industry are illustrated by some of the largest trucks and equipment in the world on the showroom floor. This equipment is so oversized that it must be shipped in pieces and assembled on-site weeks in advance.

Some examples:
- The Caterpillar Electro-motive Diesel (EMD) SD70ACE Locomotive -- The first heavy haul locomotive to be displayed at MINExpo is designed specially to bring minerals to market. It weighs 420,000 pounds, or 210 tons, and is powered by a diesel electric motor that can get more than 600 miles to the gallon.
- The Liebherr T284 Mining Truck -- This massive truck, designed to haul material to processing centers, weighs 261 tons and is over 51 feet tall. The trucks tires alone are over 12 feet tall.
MINExpo is the mining industry's premier exhibition of equipment, technology and services. Once again, the 2012 show will break its own previous record for size and number of exhibitors. It will cover the entire Las Vegas Convention Center for a total of 860,000 square feet of exhibition space.
Here's what the 50,000+ attendees will experience:
- More Exhibit Space. The show is 42 percent bigger than the 2008 exhibition. Exhibitors will cover 12 halls as well as outdoor space at the Convention Center and, for the first time, the show will extend to the South Halls, where full registration and shuttle service will be available.
- More Exhibitors: More than 1,800 exhibitors from the U.S. and 35 countries are expected—a 40 percent increase over the prior show. MINExpo covers the mining industry gamut, from excavating, materials handling and haulage, processing and preparation, drilling, and safety equipment—to computer technologies, replacement parts and engineering, construction, mining, and reclamation services—all in one place.
- Matchmaker Program: To maximize time and efficiency at the show, attendees can indicate the products that interest them, and a list of exhibitors that match those interests will be emailed. An expanded online product directory will also be available, as well as a new mobile app.
- International Participation: Pavilions from Australia, Canada, Chile, China and Germany are scheduled and information on joining delegations from from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Honduras, India, Mexico, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovak Republic, Sweden and Ukraine is available at www.minexpo.org. - Education Sessions: Instruction will be featured on new developments in mining safety, bulk materials handling, process, maintenance, underground mining, surface mining, coal, water, air, new mining projects, markets and technology.
- Awards & Recognition Luncheons: The Sentinels of Safety awards are presented to U.S. mining operations with outstanding safety records. This year's awards will be presented to operations in 10 mining categories, for both small and large operations. The U.S. Department of the Interior will also honor U.S. mining operations that have achieved exemplary land reclamation and have employed effective principles of sustainable development. The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement will present the awards for coal mining operations, and the Bureau of Land Management will recognize minerals mining operations.

- Average expenditure: $9.3 million for the equipment, products and services.
- Mining professionals attend from 112 countries.
- Over-sized equipment is some of the largest in the world and is shipped in pieces over sea, rail, road and sky. Pre-assembly takes seven weeks before it can be moved into the Las Vegas Convention Center. Cranes as large as 265 tons are required for assembly.
- The show requires enough electrical to power over 1,000 homes.
- Assembly of the show requires more than 10 large forklifts, varying in size from 12,000 lbs. to 36,000 lbs.
- The show generates $63.7 million in non-gaming economic impact in the Las Vegas area.
