DENVER, Jan. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- mindSpark Learning (mSL), a Denver-based national nonprofit dedicated to re-engineering education through educators with unique professional learning experiences, announced today a partnership with Brink Literacy Project to launch its Illustrated Educators Program. This is a six-week professional learning course that introduces educators to innovative storytelling methods through the medium of comics.
The Illustrated Educators Program strategically provides teachers with professional learning and the resources needed to use storytelling as an educational tool. Course participants will interact with celebrity comic creators like Zack Howard, who's worked with Marvel, Disney, and DC Comics, and Harry Bogosian, who's worked with DC Comics, Grease the Musical and Tiny Mantis Entertainment. Additionally, educators will storyboard their own incredible tales and work with experts from both organizations to bring engaging storytelling strategies back to their classrooms. All participants have an opportunity to include their story in a future anthology of graphic memoirs.
The first course runs every Tuesday, starting February 12th and ending on March 19th, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at mindSpark Learning in Lakewood, Colorado. Teachers of all levels are invited to register. The fee for the course is $150.
"Teachers do so much more than focus on academic lessons. They help lay the foundation for our children's' social-emotional development, encourage their work habits and equip them for the workforce," said mindSpark Learning CEO Kellie Lauth. "We're thrilled to offer a unique tool that empowers them to champion their work, while creatively teaching students to tell their stories."
"Our partnership addresses a roadblock some face with certain students - communication," said CEO of Brink Literacy Project Dani Hedlund. "We're offering a professional experience and creative outlet that intersects educators with industry professionals and experts to expand their way of thinking and creatively bring storytelling methods to the classrooms."
