Minds + Machines Opens New Network Operations Center
DOTFM, RAPIDLY GROWING HOME OF LAST.FM AND OTHER TOP-RANKED MUSIC SITES, MOVES TO NEW LOS ANGELES-BASED DATA CENTER
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Minds + Machines, a leading provider of top-level domain registry services including the Espresso registry software platform, has migrated all domain names ending in .FM to its new Network Operations Center at One Wilshire in Los Angeles, California -- the most connected data center building in the world.
dotFM, operated by BRS Media Inc., is the first top-level domain to migrate to the new Minds + Machines operations center. Previously, dotFM had co-located dotFM with ten country-code top-level domains at the CoCCA data center in Sydney, Australia.
"Our new operations center is state of the art for top-level domain operations," said Antony Van Couvering, CEO of Minds + Machines. "dotFM will benefit from the increased speed, security, and dependability of our infrastructure. As we gear up for the introduction of new generic top-level domains (new gTLDs), we will continue to aggressively improve our software and infrastructure to make our Espresso registry platform the most flexible, responsive, and cost-effective solution for our customers."
"We are delighted with the investments Minds + Machines is making," said George T. Bundy, President of BRS Media Inc., the operator of dotFM. "The migration proceeded quickly and flawlessly, and we have already seen improvements with speed and latency. With a diverse worldwide network of registrars and domain holders there is an undeniable advantage to having the registry platform based in a highly-connected facility."
The new network operations center is based in One Wilshire, home to more than 200 U.S. and international telecommunications carriers such as ATT, Level 3, Qwest, Verizon, and Reach Telecom -- resulting in lower latency and fewer points of failure for all network connections. The scalability and flexibility allows for the selection of multiple different carriers to accommodate rapid growth and diversified network connections.
ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) will begin accepting applications for top-level domains named after cities, companies, brands and entrepreneurial ventures. Minds + Machines has previously announced partnerships to provide registry services using the Espresso platform for proposed new web addresses including .eco (www.supportdoteco.com), .nyc (www.dotnyc.net), .roma (http://www.ildominiodiroma.it/index_eng.html) and .radio (http://www.dotradio.info)
