Millions of Votes Cast and Forty Communities Win
State Farm Neighborhood Assist grants 40 different communities $25,000 each to create positive impact
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 82,000 people from across the United States and Canada answered the call to help create a positive impact in their community and cast nearly 3 million votes for their favorite causes!

The following causes received the highest numbers of votes as part of this year's State Farm Neighborhood Assist:
- You're... Safe! (86,449 votes): will replace deteriorated fencing and backstops at the school's baseball fields in Benson, MN.
- Park for South Fulton (70,590 votes): will complete the development of a new 4 acre community park in South Fulton, TN.
- A Hit for Our LC Kids (69,101 votes): will construct a 60' x 100' community sports facility for year-round use by the kids of Weston, WV.
- Yummy Bags Ministry (68,823 votes): will expand its after school read-aloud program as well as buy books for the students served through its Yummy Bags Ministry in Hinton, WV.
- Miracle League Lakeshore (53,026 votes): will complete the construction of an adaptive baseball field which will allow children with disabilities the opportunity to play organized baseball in Manitowoc/Two Rivers, WI.

Now in its third year, State Farm Neighborhood Assist is a youth-led philanthropic program that empowers individuals of all ages to identify the issues they feel are the most important to their communities. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a diverse group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, manages the program and reviewed an initial 4,000 cause submissions, selecting a top 200 finalists. The top 200 causes were then put to a public vote between April 28th and May 16th with the top 40 vote receiving causes each receiving a $25,000 grant.
In 2014, the top 40 causes represent 22 states and range from children's literacy efforts to youth arts programs. Communities that will receive funding range in size from Andrews, NC with a population of approximately 1,700 to Chicago, IL.

About the Youth Advisory Board
The Youth Advisory Board is comprised of 30 students, ages 17-20, from across the United States and Canada who serve a two-year term. Their directive is to implement a $5 million-a-year signature service-learning initiative to address issues important to youth and communities. The Board is completely autonomous and youth-driven, and funds projects focused on issues selected by the board that impact youth. It consists of a diverse group of full-time students at high schools and universities. Each member commits about 15 hours a month to the Board and participates in three face-to-face meetings per calendar year. The Board will fund the 40 grants awarded through the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program with a portion of its $5 million funding in 2014.
