Million Dollar Investigations Discussed at Anti-Fraud Advisory Board's First Meeting
OKLAHOMA CITY, April 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Million dollar investigations, crimes that wiped out Oklahomans' bank accounts and undercover operations were just a few topics discussed at the first meeting of the Anti-Fraud Advisory Board.
"Bringing together these law enforcement experts to share ideas is a great thing for consumers," said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. "I'm honored that the board members have devoted their time and energy to this board. It will benefit Oklahomans tremendously."
Doak created the advisory committee in January to increase the effectiveness of the Oklahoma Insurance Department's (OID) Anti-Fraud Unit. The board includes four legislators, a county undersheriff, a police chief and two professors of criminal justice.
"By being on the advisory board and interacting with other law enforcement officials, I'm better prepared to present information to other agencies," said Miami Police Chief George Haralson. "I can share valuable information and the fact that the Oklahoma Insurance Department's Anti-Fraud Unit can help smaller law enforcement agencies in northeastern Oklahoma."
The board also includes: Sen. Bill Brown, R-Broken Arrow, Rep. Dan Kirby, R-Tulsa, Rep. Mike Christian, R- Oklahoma City, Rep. John Bennett, R-Sallisaw, Thom Parr, Criminal Justice Professor at East Central University and CLEET instructor, Dr. Robert Scott, Dean of College of Education and Technology at Fort Hays State University and Tulsa County Undersheriff Tim Albin.
"Today we got off to a good start and got a better understanding of the history, capabilities and mission of the Anti-Fraud Unit," said Rep. Dan Kirby R-Tulsa. "I'm looking forward to future meetings and developing new procedures to protect Oklahomans."
The advisory board will meet twice a year to discuss OID investigations that resulted in criminal charges, offer suggestions and collaborate on statewide efforts
