WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mary Frances Miller, a consulting actuary with Select Actuarial Services in Nashville, Tenn., is the new president of the American Academy of Actuaries. The ceremonial transition took place earlier today during the Academy's annual meeting and luncheon, where Miller received the presidential gavel from outgoing President Ken Hohman.

Miller was unanimously elected by the Academy's board of directors to the office of president-elect in October 2009. As president-elect, she served on the Academy's board of directors and Executive Committee. She also was charged with leading the Academy's Strategic Planning Committee.
Miller, who has more than 20 years of actuarial experience, first served on the American Academy of Actuaries board of directors from 2002 to 2004 during her tenure as president-elect and president of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). Miller has been a CAS delegate to various International Association of Actuaries committees since 2002 and has been the chairperson of its Education Committee since 2008. Miller also has served on numerous American Academy of Actuaries committees, including its Casualty Practice Council from 2005 to 2009 and its Council on Professionalism from 2008 to 2009.
