The corporate showcase presentation, "Patient Centered Monitoring and Medication Use in the Pain Population," will be given by Lora Brown, M.D., Pain Management Specialist, Coastal Orthopedics & Pain Management, Bradenton, Fla., who was recently named one of the "Top 70 Best in Pain Management Physicians in the US" by Becker's Orthopedic and Spine Review. The presentation, which takes place on Thursday, May 17 from 3:00 – 3:30 p.m. in the exhibit hall, Level 1, Kamehameha II at the Hawaii Convention Center, will review comprehensive data on medication use of pain patients and discuss the benefits of urinary drug testing as an important tool in safe prescribing of pain medication.
"As prescription pain medication abuse continues to rise, it is more crucial than ever for medication monitoring in the pain population," said Dr. Lora Brown. "Urine drug testing, the most common medication monitoring method, helps physicians provide each patient with an appropriate treatment plan with a more complete medication profile to help prevent harmful drug-drug interactions in a patient's prescription regimen."
In addition to the corporate showcase, two poster presentations from Millennium will be made during the meeting in the Exhibit Hall at the Hawaii Convention Center. These posters include:
- "Detection of the d (dextro) and l (levo) methamphetamine enantiomers in a population of those with pain," showed that clinical laboratories may help substantially reduce the number of reported l-methamphetamine positive tests and potentially improve clinical decision making. (Thursday, May 17 from 8:15 – 9:45 a.m.)
- "Observations of hydrocodone co-prescriptions and non-reported prescription medications in a population of those with chronic pain," showed that the cohort of patients taking non-prescribed hydrocodone were more likely to take other non-prescribed medications than the group taking hydrocodone with a prescription. (Friday, May 18 from 8:45 – 10:15 a.m.)
"Millennium is proud to sponsor initiatives for further physician education at this year's APS meeting, and as part of our ongoing commitment to our physician customers and their patients, we will continue to provide prescribers with tools for effective patient-focused medication monitoring and risk management," said Howard Appel, President of Millennium Laboratories. "Additionally, these poster presentations support our commitment to provide scientific data to allow physicians to make informed prescribing decisions as they care for people suffering from pain."
