Millennial Money Awareness Group GenFKD Kicks Off Career Workshop
Millennial-run organization addresses gap between higher education and job market through on-campus educational programming
FORT COLLINS, Colo., Feb. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The millennial-run economic and financial policy group, GenFKD (Generation Financial Knowledge Development), today announced the start of Launchpad, a semester-long workshop on the Colorado State University campus aimed at equipping millennials with the necessary skills to be workforce ready in today's rapidly changing labor market.
Launchpad is the latest addition to the organization's nationwide efforts to address the gap between higher education and real world career paths. Founded in 2014, GenFKD's mission is to remedy higher education's lapses in preparing students for entry into the new economy. GenFKD helps prepare millennials for successful careers in the new economy through advocacy, informative content, and on-campus programming.
"We're excited to introduce this revolutionary way of orienting students early on in their studies and helping them launch their career trajectory," said Justin Dent, the Executive Director of GenFKD. "Post-graduate employment statistics show us that higher education does not help students succeed in the 21st Century job market, and we believe early intervention can radically improve workforce readiness."
Launchpad, through hands-on workshops and active mentorship, will help students navigate the job market, and show them the skills they need to be more competitive candidates. They will also have the opportunity to network with successful entrepreneurs, who will introduce them to careers in the growing digital economy.
"I designed the curriculum explicitly to launch undergraduates from different majors into entrepreneurship and leadership through projects in business planning, introductory data analysis, coding, and design," said Anna Feldman, a Harvard-trained educational strategist who designed the Launchpad curriculum. "We want students to have a clear idea of how to leverage their gifts and know-how into a financially sustainable and meaningful career."
In addition to Launchpad, GenFKD has 26 fellows who actively run financial literacy programs on college campuses across the country.
Founded in 2014, GenFKD is spearheading skills-based training and student-first reforms. The organization is focused on improving post-graduate outcomes in areas of gainful employment, financial preparedness and entrepreneurial readiness by advancing a system of "new education."
