SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Army Lieutenant General Dennis L. Via, director of command, control, communications and computer (C4) systems (J6), the Joint Staff, will be the luncheon speaker at MILCOM 2010 on Monday, November 1. He is the principal advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on all C4 systems matters within the Department of Defense. Air Force Space Command's Lieutenant General Tom Sheridan, commander of the Space and Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles Air Force Base, will provide the welcome address Monday morning.
Lieutenant General Via joins a distinguished list of speakers, including Fusion-io chief scientist and Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak who will kick off the conference.
MILCOM 2010 will take place at the San Jose Convention Center from October 31 to November 3. Lockheed Martin and the Aerospace Corporation are serving as corporate hosts in coordination with conference co-sponsors, the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society.
Now in its 29th year, MILCOM is one of the largest government/industry conferences in the world, and the premier technical communications, networking and information-sharing event of its kind. More than 5,000 people from 30 countries are expected to attend this annual gathering, which draws professionals from government, scientific, academic and engineering communities, contractors, allies, and top international educational institutions.
"Lockheed Martin is delighted to serve as the host for MILCOM 2010, and we invite all professionals and students engaged in communications-electronics to join us in San Jose," said Rick Skinner, MILCOM 2010 executive committee co-chair.
There are three executive panels and 24 technical panels covering topics such as advances in information technology, military satellite communications, radio waveforms and cyber security. There are also in-depth tutorials addressing commercial wireless networking, cyber security and virtual wargames, digital video broadcasting, quantum communications, and coding and transport of motion imagery data. Panels and tutorials are offered for unclassified and classified audiences. To date, over 800 papers have been received for presentation at this year's conference.
This premier event will open on Sunday, October 31 at 5 p.m. with the grand opening of the exhibit hall. The exhibit hall space is sold out, but there is space available in the table top area and outdoors, which is an excellent location to feature a company's large equipment and demonstrations.
There are other special events and tours available for families including golf and tours to Monterey/Carmel and San Francisco. The showcase event is Monday night at The Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose's popular hands-on science and exploration museum.
