Milberg LLP Announces Target Data Breach Consumer Privacy Suit Settlement
NEW YORK, March 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States District Court for the District of Minnesota has granted preliminary approval to a $10 million settlement reached in the In re: Target Corporation Customer Data Security Breach Litigation. The settlement comes after more than a year of litigation relating to the 2013 massive data breach sustained by the retailer during the holiday shopping season, which compromised as many as 40 million credit and debit card accounts and personal information, like phone numbers and email addresses, from as many as 70 million customers.
On March 19, U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson approved the proposed settlement which could award as much as $10,000 each to customers who submit claim forms and documentation of losses. Customers without documentation could still submit a claim and be eligible to receive funds after documented losses and court-ordered payments were completed. Claim forms would be processed through the mail or online.
Milberg attorneys are part of the legal team representing consumers in the litigation, which alleged that Target failed to protect customers' data from hackers. Milberg partner Ariana J. Tadler is a member of the steering committee representing the class and was assisted by Milberg senior counsel Jennifer J. Sosa and associate Adam Bobkin.
As part of the settlement, Target also agreed to designate a chief information security officer responsible for protecting customers' personal information. Information regarding the settlement is available at www.targetbreachsettlement.com and toll free phone number: 1-866-680-5931.
Currently, Milberg is representing customers of Anthem, Inc., relating to the health insurer's data breach that affected 80 million current and former customers. The firm is also investigating similar allegations against Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield.
