Milberg Announces Investigation of Fraudulent Tax Returns Filed Using Intuit Inc.'s TurboTax Software
NEW YORK, April 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Milberg LLP announces that it is investigating potential violations of federal and state laws by Intuit, Inc. ("Intuit" or the "Company"), maker of tax preparation software, TurboTax, in connection with thousands of fraudulently filed tax returns using Intuit's software.
On February 5, 2015, Intuit suspended the filing of state income tax returns through its popular tax preparation software, TurboTax, because of complaints that fraudulent returns were being filed using TurboTax. Intuit said that the Company noticed an increase in "suspicious filings" and attempts from scam artists to use stolen personal information to file fraudulent state returns, giving them the ability to steal state tax refunds. Since the incident, two former TurboTax security employees have come forward, alleging Intuit's knowledge of the fraud and that the Company looked the other way in order to earn revenue for processing the fraudulent returns.
