Midamar Statement on Bill Aossey Verdict
Midamar maintains halal integrity. Former owner changed establishment numbers for export.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, July 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Midamar employees and management are deeply disappointed and concerned to learn that Bill Aossey, the founder of a forty year old company, was found guilty on several charges.
With regard to the conduct that occurred in 2010 and before, Mr. Aossey cooperated with the USDA, took responsibility for his actions, and Midamar took corrective measures that were acceptable to USDA. This led to the full reinstatement of Midamar's exporting abilities in July 2011. Midamar has been fully compliant since that time.
In 2014, the government filed criminal charges against Mr. Aossey for conduct that occurred between 2007 and 2010. Mr. Aossey accepted full responsibility for certain labeling violations. None of the violations included a compromise of the Halal integrity of Midamar's products. Nor was he convicted of any such violations.
Mr. Aossey, while he is Midamar's founder, has not been an owner of Midamar for several years. Mr. Aossey is viewed as a pioneer in the industry. He is widely respected for developing relationships in global trade and his contributions to civil society.
Midamar employees and directors are sincerely appreciative of all of those who have reached out to express concern for Mr. Aossey's welfare and who have pledged their ongoing support. It is our understanding that Mr. Aossey's counsel is expected to file an immediate appeal.
