MiCTA Donates Wireless Hotspots, Kindle Tablets to Calumet School District 132
SAGINAW, Mich., Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MiCTA, a national non-profit cooperative purchasing organization in Saginaw, MI has donated 30 Kindle tablets to Calumet School District 132 to support the district's early learning curriculum. The donation follows a $25,000 grant awarded by MiCTA for the purchase of 28 Sprint 3G/4G wireless hotspots to allow students to connect to the Internet from home.
Some of the district's first-grade students will use the tablets in a pilot project to help develop their early learning skills and technology proficiency. The tablet curriculum will also test the effectiveness of free e-textbook materials for emergent readers.
"We're delighted to support Calumet School District 132's efforts to improve student achievement and technology skills among young students," says Tim von Hoff, Chief Operating Officer of MiCTA. "MiCTA strongly advocates the use of technology in K-12 classrooms. This project will help us document the effectiveness of a number of Internet-based educational resources."
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Calumet School District 132," says district Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Reynolds. "Thanks to MiCTA and Mr. von Hoff for this kind and generous offer. Young learners in our school district will have the privilege to experience technology firsthand as they do work on their personal Kindles. Our school district believes that "High expectations produce positive results."
"Our students are excited and eager to work with these devices," says Frank Dillinger, a Calumet School District 132 first grade teacher. "I'm expecting great things from our students and am pleased to be a part of this pilot project. I'm confident that our students will be totally engaged and will reap great academic benefits."
