REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, the point-to-point microwave equipment market declined for a second year in 2010, but improved in the second half of the year. In the fourth quarter, the Microwave market grew 16 percent sequentially to $1.4 billion.

"The majority of the microwave market decline in early 2010 was due to a sharp slow down in Asia Pacific, especially in India because of the government security restriction," said Jimmy Yu, Sr. Director of Microwave Transmission research at Dell'Oro Group. "With the end of the Indian security restriction and improved macro-economic conditions in Europe, I think we can look forward to the microwave market returning to a positive rate of growth in 2011 and expanding through 2015. Like everyone else, we're expecting the demand for mobile broadband to keep growing as the number of subscribers increase and each subscriber downloads more content each day. We believe this demand for more wireless bandwidth will drive the need for more cell sites with higher backhaul capacity driving demand for more microwave equipment. We're forecasting the number of microwave radio transceiver shipments to grow at a 19 percent CAGR over the next five years," Yu added.
