REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, the point-to-point Microwave Transmission equipment market rebounded from a trough in the first quarter of the year when the market revenues fell significantly below $1 billion. In 2Q 2012, the point-to-point microwave market rose 21 percent sequentially to $1.1 billion.

"With the exception of Europe, microwave sales picked up across all the geographic regions," said Jimmy Yu, Vice President of Microwave Transmission research at Dell'Oro Group. "This broad increase across the globe including North America is what helped the microwave market improve this quarter. The only area of disappointment was the European region, which continued to stall from a peak level it reached a year ago," Yu added.

The report includes other findings on equipment configuration:

The most popular configuration continued to be split-mount; approximately 90 percent of shipments.
Full outdoor unit configuration is favored by vertical markets rather than mobile backhaul and, therefore, accounted for less than 5 percent of microwave shipments. However, as small cell deployments rise, requirements for low power and small footprint will drive demand for full outdoor units.
The remainder of shipments was full indoor unit configuration, which are used mainly for long haul transmission.
