MicroTech CEO Meets with President Obama during Historic Visit to Puerto Rico
Today's Tony Jimenez Appearance is Third Meeting with a U.S. President
VIENNA, Va., June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Award winning MicroTech President & CEO Tony Jimenez met with President Barack Obama today in Puerto Rico. This is the first U.S. presidential visit to the island commonwealth in 50 years. Jimenez was part of a contingent of U.S. Hispanic business owners, entrepreneurs, and dignitaries invited to attend the historic meeting in San Juan.
The VIP business group greeted the President at Muniz Air National Guard Base, and after attending a short welcome speech, Jimenez participated in a follow-on session downtown at the Caribe Hilton Hotel. Topics discussed included challenges, opportunities, and goals of business and industry in the U.S. Territory.
"There is a lot of excitement down here," Puerto Rican Governor Luis Fortuna told Reuters. Obama acknowledged the contribution Puerto Ricans have made to the U.S. Military, as well as the importance of job creation. Fortuna reaffirmed the economy is the biggest issue among islanders.
Jimenez echoed the theme. "Many issues cut across the different subgroups within the Hispanic community, but like the rest of the nation, the economy is the paramount concern on people's minds," he said. "Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latin America offer tremendous business potential because of the human and natural resources present there."
Just last week, Jimenez met with former President Bill Clinton in New York, and in 2008, was a part of a small contingent of small business owners invited to the White House by then-President George W. Bush. Jimenez has consulted with the current administration regarding the Presidential Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB), and was appointed in 2010 to the Department of Commerce Advisory Board for Minority Business Enterprise.
