MicroTech CEO Appointed by Virginia Governor to University Board of Visitors
Tony Jimenez Named to George Mason University Board by Governor McDonnell
VIENNA, Va., Jan. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroTech President & CEO Tony Jimenez has been appointed by Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell to the George Mason University Board of Visitors. The Board is a corporate body led by Ernst Volgenau, who also serves as the Chairman of SRA International Inc. The 16 members of the Board are appointed by the governor on a rotating basis to serve four-year terms. The governor's appointment of Jimenez was made to fill a slot left vacant by David I. Ramadan, recently elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. Jimenez holds two advanced degrees. During his military career, he served as the Program Director of eArmyU -- at the time, the world's largest educational portal and virtual university. He is on the Board of Trustees of the Living Classrooms Foundation, a non-profit that is improving the lives of young people in poverty-stricken communities. Jimenez also serves as an Advisor to the Presidential Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB) on Education.
"I'm very humbled to be named to the George Mason University Board of Visitors," said Tony Jimenez. "I want to personally thank Governor McDonnell for this special honor. I look forward to working closely with the other Board of Visitors members in this important role with the university and community."
Known for its diverse campus and an enrollment population of over 33,000 students, Fairfax, Va.-based George Mason University has been recognized as one of the Top 200 Academic Universities in the World. The Board of Visitors was created in April 1972 by an act of the General Assembly when the university became an independent institution. The Board exercises its authority principally in policy-making and oversight. It recognizes as official observers, four faculty representatives that sit on the Academic Programs Diversity & University Community Committee and the Finance and Land Use Committee. As one of its important roles, the Board selected Dr. Angel Cabrera last month as the next president of the school, replacing the outgoing Dr. Alan Merten.
