MicroStrategy Announces Support for Apache Hadoop
MicroStrategy 9 Enables Users to Leverage Hadoop's Massive Storage Capabilities and Transform Petabytes of Data into Actionable Insights
MCLEAN, Va., June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MicroStrategy® Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence (BI) software, today announced that MicroStrategy 9 offers seamless access to Apache Hadoop as a data source. Hadoop is an open-source framework for managing massive amounts of data.
With MicroStrategy 9, organizations can build enterprise-caliber business intelligence applications with data stored in Hadoop. Users can easily deploy data-intensive dashboards, reports, and mobile applications without writing MapReduce programs.
The MicroStrategy 9 integration with Hadoop uses Hive, a data warehouse infrastructure that is a subproject of Hadoop. MicroStrategy's extended data access architecture allows application developers to submit queries using HiveQL, the Hive query language. With MicroStrategy's high performance BI software and the data scale of Hadoop, users are able to:
- View Hadoop data in MicroStrategy dashboards
- View Hadoop data in MicroStrategy Mobile applications
- Drill from summary data in an enterprise data warehouse to detail data from Hadoop
MicroStrategy's ROLAP (Relational Online Analytical Processing) architecture generates highly optimized SQL to leverage the performance and scalability of all major data sources. With MicroStrategy, users can report on extremely large data volumes, such as the ones found at Hadoop implementations, while still providing optimum performance.
"MicroStrategy is a leader in large-scale data access and we welcome their involvement in the Hadoop community," said Amr Awadallah, co-founder and CTO at Cloudera. "We know that enterprise customers such as LinkedIn, Navteq, and Apollo Group use Cloudera's Distribution for Hadoop for critical data storage and analysis tasks. The combination of MicroStrategy's enterprise-class BI software with Hadoop's data scalability enables a broader range of users, such as business analysts and non-technical users, to gain valuable insights from data stored in Hadoop."
"With MicroStrategy 9, Amazon Elastic MapReduce customers can interact with a point-and-click interface to query data without developing HiveQL scripts or MapReduce jobs," said Peter Sirota, General Manager of Amazon Elastic MapReduce for Amazon Web Services LLC. "Business intelligence software, like MicroStrategy 9, coupled with the web-scale infrastructure of Amazon Web Services, allows organizations to get more value out of their data."
"MicroStrategy has long been known for its outstanding performance at the highest data scale," said Sanju Bansal, MicroStrategy COO. "Our flexible approach to data access allows us to quickly work with emerging data management technologies such as Apache Hadoop. We are committed to pushing the performance of BI applications, including those with the largest data volumes."
