An industry leader in innovation, Providence St. Joseph Health has been driving digital transformation in health care as part of a comprehensive strategic plan and vision to advance health for a better world.
"Health care is the last bastion to fully enter the digital age," said Providence St. Joseph Health President and CEO Rod Hochman, M.D. "With data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence poised to enable and improve the way care is delivered, health systems need leaders who are well versed in the technology fields. B.J. has the depth and experience to guide our organization through this period of transformation, which will include collaborating with technology companies, as well as adopting enterprise-wide solutions that will modernize health care operations."
With that in mind, Providence St. Joseph Health intentionally set out to select a leader with world-class experience in information technology. Moore is well-suited for this role having spent close to 20 years at Microsoft, where he served as Vice President, Enterprise Commerce and Compliance, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence and Vice President, Enterprise Commerce, Windows and Devices Group. A well-respected leader known for building quality teams that achieve breakthrough performance, his accomplishments include helping evolve Microsoft from complex silos to a simpler business model that puts strategic partners and customers at the center.
Providence St. Joseph Health has led the trend in bringing leaders from the technology industry into health care. Along with Moore, prominent additions have included Chief Digital Officer Aaron Martin, previously of Amazon, who joined in 2014, and Chief Financial Officer Venkat Bhamidipati, formerly of Microsoft, who joined in 2017. Moore will report to Bhamidipati.
"B.J. is a proven leader with deep skills in transformation. His diverse experience in a broad organization like Microsoft positions him well to modernize technology solutions in health care and utilize our vast data sets to ease the way for our patients, caregivers and community partners," said Bhamidipati. "He will also be instrumental as Providence St. Joseph Health establishes partnerships with other leading organizations in areas such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence."
Addressing his own motivations for joining Providence St. Joseph Health, Moore said, "Health care touches all of us at some point in our lives. There's nothing more important than health. This new role is a chance to make a meaningful difference. I'm drawn to Providence St. Joseph Health because of its strong mission-driven culture, its commitment to innovation and the scale of its operations, which spans seven states. I'm excited to work with health care experts and clinicians across the organization and look forward to contributing my expertise and outside perspective to support the important work they do to improve the lives of those in need."
