ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Oct. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced the addition of a phase-compliant embedded solution to address synchronization requirements for LTE and small cells in the wireless infrastructure market. The API 4.6 release of the company's IEEE 1588 software suite supports IEEE G.8275.1 telecom profile for phase. In addition, the new solution boasts the industry's leading phase error performance using an advanced algorithm supporting G.8273.2, with performance better than 50 nanoseconds (nS) reliably over 20 network nodes.
"We are pleased to deliver customers superior phase error performance from our complete solution. This was achieved through the strategic development of our packet timing solutions and our more than 20 years of expertise in network synchronization innovations, combined with patent pending elements of our solution, to optimize performance," said Maamoun Seido, vice president and business unit manager of Microsemi's timing products. "In addition to leveraging Microsemi's leadership position in IEEE 1588, our new phase-compliant solution demonstrates our broad range of solutions from the PLL and switch to PHY."
The new embedded solution, much like the addition of phase to the company's award-winning TimeProvider® 5000 software, leverages Microsemi's synchronization expertise to provide a complete, high-performance synchronization solution enabling LTE-A and small cell services. It also utilizes the company's IEEE 1588-2008 protocol engine software to support operation as a telecom grandmaster, telecom boundary clock or telecom timing slave clock. Target applications for the solution include carrier/edge routers and wireless backhaul, for which Microsemi's IEEE 1588 solutions have been deployed with all major tier one communications equipment manufacturers since the standards inception in 2008.
According to market research firm Infonetics, 49 operators have commercially launched LTE-Advanced in 31 countries. In addition, the firm expects the total small cell market to hit $1.2 billion in 2015, up 44 percent over 2014.
Microsemi's new software interfaces to Microsemi's time synchronization algorithm and software programmable clock generators, such as the ZL3034x and ZL3036x product families of clock generation and SyncE devices. It also interfaces to 1588-capable PHY and switches with integrated timestamping.
Key features include:
- IEEE 1588-2008 protocol engine
- IEEE 1588-2008 Annex J.3 (delay request response) and Annex J.4 (peer-to-peer) default profiles
- ITU-T G.8265.1 : Precision time protocol telecom profile for frequency synchronization
- ITU-T G.8275.1 Precision time protocol telecom profile for phase/time synchronization with full timing support from the network
- ITU-T G.8273.2: Timing characteristics of telecom boundary clocks and telecom time slave clocks
