ALISO VIEJO, Calif., May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced it has achieved Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Carrier Ethernet (CE) 2.0 certification of its Serval™ VSC7418 CE switch engine and CEServices™ application software. A virtual requirement from service providers, CE 2.0 certification of the turnkey hardware and software solution enables Microsemi original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and original design manufacturing (ODM) customers to accelerate time-to-market with readily interoperable, standards-based equipment for Ethernet business service delivery.
"Attaining this milestone underscores Microsemi's commitment to driving growth in our communications end market," said Uday Mudoi, vice president, marketing, for Microsemi's Ethernet Networking Technology (ENT) group. "The CE 2.0 certification provides our customers a standardized and proven baseline of functionality, ultimately expediting their time-to-market with Microsemi's differentiated Ethernet networking solutions."
Multiple research analyst firms project the global market for carrier Ethernet services to reach $50 billion by 2015. Now the de facto communications protocol for wide area networking, over 1,000 network operators globally support carrier Ethernet, with bandwidth for global Ethernet business services expected to surpass 75 percent of total global business bandwidth by 2017, according to Vertical Systems Group.
Microsemi's total hardware and software solution is certified for all Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) services―two each respectively in E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree and E-Access, as defined in MEF Standards 6.1, 22.1, 33. CE 2.0 certification is based on rigorous testing by a third party, MEF-approved test lab using over 630 test cases derived from MEF specifications. Certification testing bypasses months, sometimes years, of internal test development for the CE service types.
