Microban Debuts Next Generation Of SilverShield With Reaction Eight Times As Fast As Other Antimicrobial Technologies
Engineered for Variety of Home Products and Public Spaces -- Restrooms, Airports, Subways, Hotels and Gyms
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Microban® International, Ltd, the global leader in antimicrobial product solutions, today introduced the next generation of its SilverShield™ technology, an advanced solution preventing the buildup of bacteria 24/7. Its unique geometry and highly efficient release mechanism enables it to react eight times as fast as other leading antimicrobial technologies. SilverShield can be used in home products including toilet seats, countertops, door hardware, faucets, hardwood flooring, and kitchen gadgets, in addition to public spaces including restrooms, airports, subways, restaurants, hotels and gyms. Available now, Microban will begin global outreach to share SilverShield's benefits to existing partners and to new customers, where this technology provides a clear performance advantage.
"This technology comes on the heels of our launch of SilverShield RTX series technology for footwear and apparel at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and reinforces our push for innovation," said Ivan Ong, vice president of research and development at Microban. "This next generation of SilverShield for the home enables our brand partners to develop consumer products that provide a significant reduction in microbes in a much shorter time than legacy silver based antimicrobial technologies."
SilverShield is engineered for products used daily in public areas including grocery carts, baby changing stations, ATMs, gas pumps, fitness equipment and toilet roll dispensers.
A key difference for this technology is that it's incorporated during the manufacturing process, becoming an inherent part of the product. It doesn't wear or wash away, working continuously for the usable life of the product. SilverShield's active ingredient is registered with the EPA as safe to use in food contact applications.
SilverShield, in development for more than three years at Microban's advanced laboratories, greatly exceeds the quality and performance standards of the market. SilverShield technology was subjected to over a thousand tests utilizing the ISO 22196 methodology, ensuring performance across many applications. Thirteen in-house scientists, including five PhDs with a total of 100 years of experience, created this technology.
Microban works closely with consumer product designers to determine how best to incorporate SilverShield into product design. Microban also develops a custom marketing program for retail and to educate consumers.
