Micro Center Maker Student Contest Starts Today
HILLIARD, Ohio, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Micro Center (microcenter.com), a leading national computer device and consumer electronics retailer headquartered in suburban Columbus, announced that students age 13 or older can now enter a fun contest designed to encourage ingenious ways for students to use Raspberry Pi and 3D Printing - the 2017 Micro Center Maker Student Contest. The contest will continue Micro Center's support for schools' STEM-related activities by providing the winning student's school with a 3D printer and equipping a classroom with Raspberry Pi.
Micro Center is inviting students age 13 and older to tweet or post a response to the question "What would you make with a 3D Printer and Raspberry Pi?" The student whose tweet or post is judged to be the winner will receive a Flashforge Finder FDM 3D Printer (SKU 095943) valued at $499.99 and a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (SKU 988428) valued at $34.99. In addition, Micro Center will give the winning student's school a Flashforge Finder FDM 3D Printer and Raspberry Pi 3 Model B units for an entire classroom of up to 30 students.
"Micro Center is the foremost bricks-and-mortar store for makers in the US, and a longstanding friend and partner of the Raspberry Pi Foundation. We've been consistently impressed with their work bringing Raspberry Pi products to market, and working to help their customers and ours understand how to get the most out of these new tools. We're delighted that Micro Center will be providing the Raspberry Pi 3 both to an individual student and an entire classroom of students," said Eben Upton, Co-founder and Trading CEO of the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
"Micro Center offers the largest selection of 3D printers and Raspberry Pi products of any US retailer. In keeping with our history of engaging with the do-it-yourself and maker communities, we're excited to offer a contest which encourages students to think of creative ways to use a 3D printer and Raspberry Pi and also helps their school stretch their STEM budget by giving them a 3D printer and classroom full of Raspberry Pi 3's," said Kevin L. Jones, Micro Center Vice President-Merchandising.
