Michigan's Stop-Sale System Achieves Significant Results In Battle Against Meth

LUTHERVILLE, Md., Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) today lauded the latest results achieved by the real-time, pseudoephedrine (PSE) blocking system in Michigan. The system, known as the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx), automatically blocks unlawful pseudoephedrine sales and helps law enforcement officials track down methamphetamine offenders and make arrests. Data released by NPLEx shows electronic technology in Michigan blocked the sale of more than 32,890 boxes of medicine containing PSE during the first seven months of 2014, preventing more than 85,487 grams from potentially being diverted by meth criminals.

Additionally, when compared to the same period in 2013, Michigan sold 7.23% fewer boxes of PSE and reduced the number of individual purchasers by 7.16%.

"Michigan is on the forefront of the battle against meth production, and thanks in part to NPLEx, the state is starting to make real progress," said Charles F.
