ATLANTA, Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Michelle Potter is the recipient of the January 2015 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (prsageorgia.org), recognizing her dedicated volunteer work for the Chapter. She has served on numerous committees since joining in 2003, including the Nonprofit Special Interest Group (SIG), the Healthcare SIG and the Chapter Awards Committee, and she was Co-Chair of the Nonprofit SlG for two years. Currently, she is serving as Co-Chair of the Chapter Awards Committee.
According to Potter, PRSA has been a great support throughout her career. "PRSA serves as a tremendous resource for PR professionals, and the Georgia Chapter has assisted me in numerous ways," she said. "The website's career center listed postings that opened doors to two positions, and through participation in the Nonprofit and Healthcare SIGs, I learned best practices and industry trends. In addition, I received guidance from members of the Independent Counselors SIG when I started a consulting business."
Potter is the Marketing Communications Manager for Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates (AGA), the largest gastroenterology practice in the southeast with more than 45 offices and endoscopy centers. Prior to joining AGA, she worked for 15 years in the healthcare sector for government and nonprofit organizations and for five years served as a communications consultant for a variety of businesses, including legal, financial services, insurance and real estate. She earned her bachelor's in journalism from Baylor University in Texas.
Because of this type of volunteerism, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.
PRSA Georgia (prsageorgia.org) consists of some 900 professionals throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members. The Chapter has regular monthly meetings and seminars, an Annual Conference and annual Real World PR collegiate conference day.
The Chapter includes eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
