RACINE, Wis., March 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Modine Manufacturing Company (NYSE: MOD) is pleased to announce that The Manufacturing Institute will award Michelle Piening with the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Ahead Award. Piening is the North America Regional Manager of the Modine Operating/Production System in Modine's Jefferson City, MO, facility. The STEP Ahead Awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry.
"It's imperative that the United States regain its manufacturing strength before our knowledge of the industry is lost due to lack of exposure and experience," said Piening. "My passion for manufacturing is to drive continuous improvement in order to regain our competitive edge and secure this crucial industry for future generations."
"Modine is proud that Michelle Piening is being recognized by The Manufacturing Institute for her significant contributions as a leader in our company," said Thomas A. Burke, Modine's President and CEO. "Piening has worked in various assignments in Modine plant operations for over 15 years. In her current role as the North America Regional Manager of the Modine Operating/Production System she is responsible for building the continuous improvement capabilities within our operational teams. Piening joined the company in 2000 as manufacturing engineer in our Jefferson City, MO, plant and has demonstrated her effectiveness as a leader throughout her career. The STEP Ahead Awards acknowledge her success as a proven manufacturing leader as well as a continuous improvement expert, both of which are so important in today's competitive business environment."
"These 130 women are the faces of exciting careers in manufacturing," said Jennifer McNelly, executive director, The Manufacturing Institute. "We chose to honor these women because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole. "The STEP Ahead Awards are part of the larger STEP Ahead initiative, launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research, and leadership for attracting, advancing, and retaining strong female talent.
A recent survey from Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of American manufacturing companies have a moderate to severe shortage of available, qualified workers.
On April 21, The Manufacturing Institute will recognize 130 recipients of the STEP Ahead Awards at a reception in Washington, D.C. The STEP Ahead Awards program will highlight each Honoree's story, including their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.
