Michelle Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn Withdraw From Tea Party National Conference
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tea Party Nation was informed this morning by Congressmen Michelle Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn that they would be withdrawing from the conference due to a review by the Congressional ethics committee. They expressed their unwavering support of the convention and regret the late feedback from the committee. Judson Phillips commented, "We regret that they are unable to attend, however we do not want them to be challenged by the committee or the Democrat led Congress. We fully appreciate their support and well wishes and after speaking with Marsha directly, we are grateful for their notification in time for us to arrange other speakers."
Due to a review of the for profit status of the event, the committee could not authorize them to speak as the use of any proceeds from the event had not yet been established. Mark A. Skoda, who has been assisting with the news media added, "Marsha Blackburn called me upon this decision and was apologetic. As I shared with her, we fully recognize her commitment and the need to abide by the committee's decision. Marsha and Michelle are great friends of the Tea Party movement and our mutual admiration and respect is clear."
Andrew Breitbart will be introducing Sarah Palin during the event. We have requested that he replace Marsha Blackburn earlier in the day, Saturday. In addition, Tea Party Nation has extended a further invitation to replace Michelle Bachmann on Friday.
The convention is sold out and we are pleased with the response. While we will miss Congressmen Bachmann and Blackburn, we are grateful for their support of the event. Tea Party Nation will confirm the new speakers upon their confirmation.
