Michelin's 29th Annual Golf Tournament Benefits 10 Community Charities

GREENVILLE, S.C., Oct. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Michelin North America has raised approximately $763,000 in its 29^th annual charity golf tournament, which was held this week on Oct. 1 across six Greenville-area courses.

This year's tournament featured teams from 220 Michelin business partners and suppliers, approximately 572 players in all. Michelin hosts the tournament each year to benefit local charities that support communities in which Michelin has plants or facilities.

"Each year, the golf tournament supports Michelin's purpose to provide a better way forward for the communities where we operate," said Steve Jahries, vice president of purchasing for Michelin North America. "This event creates opportunities to do good for worthy causes while also strengthening our business relationships. Michelin is extremely grateful for the support of our partners."

The tournament has generated over $7 million since its inception in 1989. This year's tournament will award proceeds to 10 charitable organizations. Here is a brief summary of each:

Community Transportation Network, based in Fort Wayne, Ind., is an effective and dependable transportation alternative in Allen County, Ind. The organization's goal is to provide full access to community resources through friendly transportation service for seniors, persons with disabilities, children, youth and the agencies that support them.

Developmental Center for Exceptional Children, based in Anderson, S.C., was established in 1974 and remains the only area preschool serving children with special needs and disabilities in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties in the Upstate region of South Carolina.

Dothan Education Foundation, based in Dothan, Ala., is a non-profit organization devoted to working with Dothan City Schools to strengthen student achievement and build community support.

Esther House of Stanly County, near Norwood, N.C., is a group of experienced professionals, survivors and volunteers who work together to provide victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking with safe shelter along and other resources and support they need to begin their journeys to take back their lives.

Girl Scouts of South Carolina Mountains to Midlands serves girls in K-5 through 12^th grades across 22 counties in central and western South Carolina. As the preeminent leadership development organization for girls, Girl Scout chapters build courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place.

Metropolitan Arts Council, based in Greenville, S.C., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and growing cultural arts; enabling a strong, well-supported community of artists and arts providers; encouraging arts advocacy; connecting the arts to people's lives; and supporting regional tourism by enhancing Greenville as a cultural destination.

National Alliance on Mental Illness, based in Washington, D.C. (with a local chapter in Greenville, S.C.), is the largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illnesses. Michelin's grant will be shared between the national organization and its local chapter.

New Directions Housing Corporation, based in Jefferson County, Ky., supports neighborhoods, families and individuals with housing development strategies. The Resident Services program provides over 2,000 residents with affordable housing and the opportunity to work one-on-one with staff in education, financial empowerment, healthcare provision and sustainability.

Roper Mountain Science Center, based in Greenville, S.C., is a national leader in science education that provides public programs to foster innovative learning and community engagement. During the school year, up to 600 students visit Roper Mountain every day for high quality learning labs. Roper Mountain also offers summer programs throughout the week to ignite the natural curiosity of all learners to explore and shape their world.

YW8, based in Ardmore, Okla., serves the schools and communities of southern Oklahoma, near Michelin's Ardmore facility, with the mission of empowering teens to plan for a healthy tomorrow by choosing healthy behaviors today. This mission is fulfilled by educating the youth in area schools on how to avoid high-risk behaviors, how to make healthy decisions, and how to set goals for a bright and productive future.
