WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Michelin today released the list of 22 Bib Gourmand restaurants in Washington, D.C., one week ahead of its 2018 star selections.
The MICHELIN Guide, renowned for its anonymous team of food inspectors, added the U.S. capital to its published list of guides last year. The team of dining critics has been eating around the Potomac, anonymously observing the quality of ingredients, creativity of the chefs and paying in full for their meals for two years now.
"Our inspectors had another exciting year working on the Bib Gourmand selection in D.C., and we are thrilled to find more, showing just how rich and varied the cooking scene has become in Washington," said Michael Ellis, international director of the MICHELIN Guide.
Hazel, styled and helmed by Chef Rob Rubba, spurred interest from inspectors thanks to the unexpected combination of globally inspired tastes. From small plates to an exciting duck dinner, the menu at Hazel rewards diners with opportunities to share in the experience together.
Ivy City Smokehouse is the creation of Greg Casten, celebrated for Tony and Joe's and Nick's Riverside Grill, and brings the tavern/restaurant concept to a new dimension with its unique selection of smoked fish and seafood dishes.
Sfoglina is another gem from the brilliant team of Fabio and Maria Trabocchi (Fiola and Fiola Mare). Sfoglina, which means "pasta master" in Italian, is concise yet well-executed. Michelin inspectors found themselves returning frequently to enjoy the small plates and seasonal entrees highlighting delicious house-made pasta.
Introduced in 1955, Bib Gourmand restaurants are selected by Michelin's inspectors because they serve high quality food while making it possible to order two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).
More than 33 styles of cuisine will appear in the 2018 D.C. Guide, with notable cuisines amongst the Bib Gourmands including Afghan (Lapis), Ethiopian (Chercher and Das) and Latin American (Royal).
The 2018 Michelin-starred restaurants will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The Guide will go on sale at major book retailers starting Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, for a suggested retail price of $12.95.
