Wise began his U-Haul career in October 2004 as an assistant general manager (GM) for U-Haul Moving and Storage at Gandy Blvd, and shortly thereafter was promoted to GM of U-Haul Moving and Storage of West Tampa. In November 2006, Wise transferred to U-Haul Company of Tampa and served as field relief manager (FRM) before being promoted to traffic control manager (TCM) for U-Haul Company of Tampa, the position he held until his recent promotion. Today, Wise will oversee all operations of U-Haul Company of Clearwater.
"Michael brings many years of management experience to his new position," Martinez affirmed. "He is a hardworking individual ready and eager to succeed with his team. Michael's proven leadership abilities will lead this team to high achievement."
When asked what he was most excited about in assuming his role, Wise said, "The opportunity to work with an awesome group of people." Wise explained that he has a seasoned group of team members who already have been hard at work establishing themselves within the communities they serve. Wise feels fortunate, because even though he is taking over as leader of a new company split from U-Haul Company of Tampa, he and his team members already have great working relationships established. Wise says he has always believed that a president, manager or boss is usually the topic of conversation around dinner tables each night, and he plans on keeping that in mind and using it as a core value when leading his new team. He wants to make sure his team members' conversations are positive ones.
"I value the chance to make a difference in people's lives," Wise stated. "I want to do this for our customers by doing all that I can to ensure that their moving experience is a seamless process, and for my team members whose lives I will impact with the decisions I make."
Develop and train...develop and train--that's going to be Wise and his teams' new motto. Wasting no time getting started, Wise already plans to acquire new self-storage, more dealerships and more U-Box Pods for Moving and Self-Storage. Wise knows there are so many more aspects of the Company that need attention day in and day out and, as president, he intends to ensure that processes are efficient and effective within U-Haul Company of Clearwater.
Having worked in all aspects of U-Haul, and having been mentored by Bob Magyar (his former MCP)--who has kept him hungry to make a difference and learn all that he can about U-Haul--Wise feels lucky to have an opportunity to make a difference as a leader himself. He says that the opportunity to serve as president gives him the chance to train and develop team members, execute U-Haul programs and procedures, and personally take responsibility to grow both personally and professionally.
