PITTSBURGH, Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Vennum, a partner in Burleson LLP's Pittsburgh location, will present Strategies for the Oil & Gas Industry, speaking at two events hosted by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI), the continuing education arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
The seminar will be given on Sept. 15 at the PBI Professional Development Center in Pittsburgh, and again on Sept. 17 at the PBI CLE Conference Center in Philadelphia. In his presentation, Vennum will share legal strategies for handling matters related to a number of recent developments impacting the Appalachian Basin.
Topics include the Lycoming County Court of Common Pleas' decision in Gorsline v. Fairfield Township, which prohibited the location of an unconventional gas well in a residential district, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Section 3251 conference procedures. The talk will also cover the impact of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's decision in Robinson Township v. Commonwealth, which struck down portions of Act 13, a set of laws that attempted to establish statewide uniform drilling standards, among other things.
"The legal landscape of Pennsylvania has changed tremendously in the last year when it comes to local and state regulations governing the oil and gas industry," explained Vennum. "This presentation will address a few of the top issues dominating the headlines and provide strategies for mitigating legal risks in light of these latest developments."
Vennum has practiced law for more than two decades, focusing primarily in oil and gas title, land use, regulatory, and real estate law. He represents exploration and production companies and midstream operators in a wide range of regional and development matters, including local zoning, road use, municipal ordinance challenges, and general real estate concerns.
Vennum has successfully obtained land development approval for well pad sites; central facilities, including compressor stations; pipelines; and metering stations. His background in the Appalachian Basin also includes developing oil and gas lease primary term holdover language, negotiating road use and maintenance agreements, obtaining local approval for well site sewage holding tanks, and brokering the purchase and sale of oil and gas estates. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and New York.
