Michael T. Ellison named associate dean of admissions at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University

HAMDEN, Conn., July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Michael T. Ellison, of New Haven, has been appointed associate dean of admissions for the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

In his new position, Ellison is responsible for ensuring that the medical school admits qualified students who fit the university's mission, can successfully complete all components of the school's curriculum and pass the first two steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination. He will oversee a staff of five that is responsible for all facets of the medical school's admissions process and outreach programs designed to interest pre-college-aged students in attending medical school.

The medical school, which is currently under construction on Quinnipiac's North Haven Campus, is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2013. It will focus on training primary care physicians. The first class will have 60 students. The goal is to have 500 students in the medical school in four years.

Ellison comes to Quinnipiac from Chicago State University, where he was assistant dean of student affairs and admissions from 2007-2012. He held other positions at Chicago State University prior to that appointment. Ellison also is a past president of the National Association of Medical Minority Educators. In addition, he served as a member of the AAMC's Group on Student Affairs' Committee on Diversity Affairs. He also was the minority affairs committee chair for the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions.

Ellison earned a doctor of educational leadership from Roosevelt University of Chicago. He also holds a bachelor's degree in business education and a master's degree in occupational education from Chicago State University.
