Michael Kreps Re-joins Groom Law Group, Expanding Premier Policy Practice
WASHINGTON, June 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Groom Law Group, Chartered, a Washington, D.C. law firm that focuses exclusively on benefits issues, announced that Michael Kreps has re-joined the firm as Principal. Kreps began his legal career at Groom Law Group, specializing in issues related to fiduciary responsibility and plan funding and restructuring.
Kreps spent the past five years at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions where he managed all aspects of the Committee's retirement agenda and had primary staff responsibility for pension legislation, including the pension investment provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Pension Relief Act of 2010, the funding stabilization and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation reform provisions of the MAP-21 Act of 2012, and the CSEC Pension Flexibility Act. He also led the Committee's oversight of the regulatory activities of the Department of Labor, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and other retirement-related agencies. Kreps joins the firm's extensive list of attorneys with government experience, including at key federal agencies that regulate benefit plans.
"This is a critical time for the future of retirement and health policy, and we are facing an increasingly challenging environment. Groom is uniquely positioned to help clients anticipate, influence, and react to the shifting policy landscape, so I am excited to join such an extraordinary team," said Kreps.
"Mike's experience and reputation in town are a perfect fit for our DC-focused practice. He will bolster our capabilities in the legislative, plan funding and restructuring, and fiduciary responsibility practice groups," said John McGuiness, Executive Principal at Groom.
"I am very excited to have Mike join our Policy and Legislation Practice. His extensive experience working on pension issues for the Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and expertise on fiduciary and other retirement matters will be invaluable to our clients as they navigate issues before Congress and the regulatory agencies," added Brigen Winters, Head of the firm's Policy and Legislation Group.
