MIAMI, Jan. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Special needs pupils at the Dante B. Fascell Elementary School in Miami returned from their winter vacations earlier this month only to find a special surprise courtesy of Lynx Fitness.
Recognizing the importance of introducing children to a healthy lifestyle at an early age, the Miami-based company donated 35 of its innovative home/gym Lynx Boards to the school for on-site classes and another 65 travel editions for special needs children to use at home.
"The children couldn't wait to try out the Lynx Boards," explained Andres Parra, an adaptive physical education teacher and certified personal trainer at Dante B. Fascell Elementary. "This device is well suited to teach special needs children about fitness because there is virtually no wrong way to use the Lynx Board while other devices require specific motor skills that are not always present in children with special needs."
Some of the pupils in Parra's classes have been diagnosed with severe autism while others suffer from Down syndrome. "I believe that every child will be able to use the Lynx Board regardless of the physical or emotional challenges they face," according to Parra.
Lynx Fitness CEO Sheldon Burnett added that the company hopes to make similar donations to other schools in the future. "We are excited that the Lynx Board can help these special children discover that anyone can enjoy a lifetime of fitness regardless of the challenges that life throws in their path," he said.
Unlike other fitness devices, the Lynx Board offers full 360-degree range of motion and provides a total body workout without the need for complicated routines or costly add-on components.
With more than 800 specially designed training techniques that target all major muscle groups, the Lynx Board's patented friction surface uses body weight to provide counter resistance as the user glides in rhythmic precision along a specially engineered surface.
"Lynx Fitness wants to create a corporate culture that puts an emphasis on giving back to the local community as we become more and more successful with our products," said Lynx Fitness Chief Operating Officer Marc Yahr.
Since there is virtually no impact to the body, training with the Lynx Board is also advantageous for people recovering from injury as well as those suffering from chronic joint problems such as osteoarthritis. The Lynx Board's technology is supported by both utility and design patents.
Released in the U.S. and Canada in October 2015, the home/gym model retails for $329 while the Lynx Travel Board retails for $229, giving the elementary school donation a combined retail value of more than $25,000. Weighing just 6 pounds, the travel edition fits comfortably in the overhead bins of most airplanes. Both models are available with free shipping at LynxFitness.com.
