DALLAS, Sept. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 400 people attended the 10th annual "Cena de la Mariposa" fundraising dinner on September 7, 2016, in support of Mi Escuelita. The gala was held at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas and emceed by Vic Treviño. The children were the focal point of the night as they greeted guests while dressed up as future architects and engineers. The dinner's "Bridge the Gap" theme came to life with this inspiring welcome, and a bridge backdrop lit up as attendees made their donations. Funds raised will be used for scholarships for children from low-income families.
As Ludwig Wittgenstein once said: "The limits of my language are the limits of my world." For 4.4 million students in the U.S., Spanish is their first language. Trends indicate that this number will continue to increase, which is why Mi Escuelita steps up to bridge the gap in English-language deficiency.
Another highlight of the evening was the launch of the Waki Waki Campaign. As we know, LANGUAGE IS KEY when acclimating to a new culture. The Waki Waki Social Media Campaign allows Mi Escuelita to capture people's attention by taking existing brand videos and dubbing over them with Waki Waki, a made-up language that doesn't make any sense. The 30-second videos will be uploaded to social networks so that everybody can be placed in the children's shoes and understand how hard it is to become immersed in a new language. Brands participating in the campaign include: Pizza Hut, Brigg's Equipment, the Dallas Cowboys, SignaPay, and LALA Foods - and the preschool is looking for more brands to participate.
