MHz Choice to premiere four new 'Beck' episodes starring Kristofer Hivju from 'Game of Thrones'
WASHINGTON, Dec. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- MHz Networks' SVOD service, MHz Choice, will release four new episodes in the Swedish detective series Beck on Christmas Day in the U.S. and Canada. Beck is internationally recognized as the "gold standard" of Nordic noir, and these new episodes, numbers 35-38 in the series, set streaming records in Sweden earlier this year. Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju, best known for his role as Tormund Giantsbane in HBO's blockbuster series Game of Thrones, joined the cast in 2015, and since then Beck's worldwide appeal has extended deeper into the U.S. and beyond.
In an exclusive interview with MHz Choice, actor Peter Haber, who reprises his role as detective Martin Beck, said, "I thought that was the end of Beck when he retired [in episode 34]. But then the producers had another idea." Haber added, "The Secret Service of Sweden calls [Beck] and asks him for help. And then some things happen."
In these new installments, packaged as Beck: Season 6, Beck is drawn out of retirement to help catch a suspected terrorist; meanwhile, acting team leader Steinar (Hivju) follows a lead to Jordan, where he meets Swedish police liaison Alexandra Beijer (Jennie Silfverhjelm, The Girl Who Played With Fire). After averting a deadly attack, Beck returns full-time as a police supervisor, and his first task is to hire his own replacement: will it be Steinar or Alex Beijer?
Also returning to the cast are Måns Nathanaelson (Black Widows) as Oskar, Elmira Arikan (Agent Hamilton) as Ayda and Anna Asp as Jenny.
These new episodes will be released on DVD in the U.S. in February 2019.
