Recognized for Career-Long Contributions While at Platts
- Latest in a history of Platts Editors Honored by International Association for Energy Economics -
NEW YORK, Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- John Kingston, a long-time top editor at McGraw Hill Financial's energy and commodities information division Platts and now president of McGraw Hill Financial's Global Institute, is this year's recipient of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) journalism award.
IAEE named Kingston in recognition of his lasting contributions to the greater understanding of international energy economics during his nearly 30-year career at Platts, a leading global provider of energy and commodities information and a premier source of benchmark price references.
In 1983, the IAEE instituted the IAEE Award for Excellence in Written Journalism on topics relating to international energy economics.
This is the fifth time IAEE has honored Platts. Past winners are Sarah Miller, 1984; Onnic Marashian, 1992; Neil Fleming, 1995; and Margaret McQuaile, 2006.
Kingston received the award at a luncheon at the North American conference for IAEE and its sister organization, the U.S. Association for Energy Economics (USAEE) in Pittsburgh on October 27.
The award reflects Kingston's decades-long service to Platts, in roles as diverse as Managing Editor of Platts Oilgram Price Report, Editor-in-Chief of Platts Oilgram News, Global Director of Oil, and Global Director of News. In his role as Director of News at Platts, Kingston founded and led The Barrel, one of the energy industry's most widely-read energy blogs. He was and continues to be a regularly sought-after commentator on all things energy by media outlets such as CNBC, FOX Business News, Canada's Business News Network.
"I am honored to have been recognized with this award by the IAEE, and am particularly proud to share this honor with such great colleagues as Margaret McQuaile, who was recognized in 2006," Kingston said. "It's a privilege to be associated with this always-fascinating industry—and the Platts and McGraw Hill information services—since 1985."
Earlier this year, Kingston moved within McGraw Hill Financial to become President of the McGraw Hill Financial Global Institute and MHFI's Director of Market Insights, where he continues to provide thought leadership on energy and other topics.
The International Association for Energy Economics is an independent, non-profit, global membership organization for business, government, academic and other professionals concerned with energy and related issues in the international community. It seeks to advance the knowledge, understanding and application of economics across all aspects of energy and foster communication among energy concerned professionals.
