MGM Resorts International Continues as Highest Ranking Casino Resort Company on Newsweek Magazine's List of Greenest Companies, Ranking in the Top 125
Ranking at 122 up from 157 and third most highly rated U.S. Hotel & Restaurant Company
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third consecutive year, MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) has been listed among Newsweek Magazine's 500 most environmentally responsible companies in the United States—moving up 35 places to 122—and also as the highest ranking company in the casino resort industry.
The company also ranked as the third most highly rated U.S. Hotel & Restaurant Company.
"These results reflect that environmental responsibility continues as a core company value that is woven into and throughout our culture and business operations," said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International. "Sustainability in all areas of operations is the highest of priorities and we are proud to be a leader in demonstrating that environmental responsibility and a superior guest experience go hand-in-hand with world class hospitality and entertainment," Murren added.
"At MGM Resorts, we work diligently to develop and implement planet-conscious practices that integrate seamlessly into the diverse operations of our resorts," said Cindy Ortega, Senior Vice President & Chief Sustainability Officer for MGM Resorts. "Our Green Advantage program comprehensively involves every employee to leverage teamwork for the greatest possible positive impact on our planet and environment," Ortega said.
MGM Resorts is also among a select group of leading international hotel companies that earlier this year developed a standardized carbon footprint measurement and communication within the hospitality industry. The Carbon Measurement Working Group includes members of the International Tourism Partnership (ITP) and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
Newsweek's rankings were produced with two leading environmental research firms, Trucost and Sustainalytics, and the Green Rankings were created in 2009. MGM Resorts moved from #174 overall in 2010 to #157 overall in 2011 to #122 overall in 2012.
