LAS VEGAS, March 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) ("MGM Resorts" or the "Company") today announced that long-time executive Alan Feldman has been elected as chairman of the Nevada State Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling (ACPG), under the Department of Health and Human Services. The Committee's mission is to support effective problem gambling prevention, education, treatment and research programs throughout the state.
Feldman is MGM Resorts' Executive Vice President of Global Industry Affairs and oversees the planning and implementation of the MGM Resorts' policy development on industry issues and programs with a focus on responsible gambling. In his role as chairman of the ACPG, he will assist the Committee in their mission to support effective problem gambling prevention, education, treatment, and research programs throughout the state. The ACPG also aims to improve the public health of Nevadans through a sustainable and comprehensive system of programs and services that reduce the impact of problem gambling.
"It's an honor and a privilege to be elected as the new chair of the Nevada State Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling," Feldman said. "I am proud to serve as a representative of the state's gaming industry, which shares the same goals for education, prevention, treatment and research on responsible gambling. I look forward to working with the ACPG on establishing a comprehensive program to achieve these goals across the state."
"Mr. Feldman's willingness to serve in this capacity is another example of the gaming industry's longstanding commitment to working with all stakeholders to address this important community health issue," said Carol O'Hare, Executive Director of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, and member of the ACPG.
Feldman recently spearheaded the launch of GameSense, MGM Resorts' player-focused responsible gambling program that encourages players to adopt behaviors and attitudes that can reduce the risk of developing gambling disorders. This landmark program is now available at all of MGM Resorts' U.S. properties. It is the first program of its kind in the industry and has already sparked more than 750,000 positive responsible gambling conversations with guests and has earned recognition from the National Council on Problem Gambling.
Additionally, Feldman serves as Chairman of the Board of the National Center for Responsible Gaming and has been a long-serving member of the Advisory Board of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling. In 2017, he was appointed by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval to serve on the state's Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling. Feldman is also a frequent speaker on responsible gambling at conferences, universities and media events across North America and Asia.
This appointment comes as MGM Resorts marks Problem Gambling Awareness Month. Throughout March, MGM Resorts is partnering with the National Council on Problem Gambling to help spread awareness and to educate guests on how to make informed and responsible decisions while playing — with the ultimate goal — to keep gambling fun.
MGM Resorts' commitment and effort to integrate responsible gambling education into its entire guest model has received national recognition.
The effort is taking place as newly opened sports books prepare for an influx of guests for March Madness. Casino and race and sports book employees across all of MGM Resorts have participated in GameSense training, reinforcing how to have positive conversations with our guests about betting responsibly during March Madness and year-round.
