MGM Musical Star Jane Powell to Appear at '35th Annual Judy Garland Festival' in Minneapolis/St. Paul Thursday, June 10 - Saturday, June 12, 2010

MINNEAPOLIS, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- MGM musical star Jane Powell, 81, will make a personal appearance in Minneapolis/St. Paul when Judy Garland's 88th birthday, June 10, 1922, is celebrated at "The 35th Annual Judy Garland Festival" Thursday, June 10 through Saturday, June 12, 2010. Festival sites include the Heights Theatre, Windows on Minnesota, the Marquette Hotel and the Great American History Theatre.
All proceeds will benefit the Judy Garland Museum® and the Children's Discovery Museum at her birthplace in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Miss Powell, a vibrant soprano who also began her career as an MGM child star, was a close friend of Judy Garland. Among the movies she starred in are "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"(1954) with Howard Keel and "Royal Wedding" with Fred Astaire (1951).
She will be the honored guest speaker at the Judy Garland Gala on Friday, June 11, at 6:00 PM in the Stars Room of Windows on Minnesota on the 50th Floor of the IDS Tower, 80 South Eighth Street, Minneapolis. Tickets are $60.00.
Also appearing in the festival is Jerry Maren, the Munchkin "Lollipop Kid" from "The Wizard of Oz."
The films "A Star is Born" (1954) and "Girl Crazy" (1943) will be screened at the historic Heights Theatre. Miss Garland's movie gowns will be on display from Michael Siewert's Hollywood collection, and rare movie clips will be presented by New York film historian John Fricke, author of Judy Garland: World's Greatest Entertainer and Judy Garland: A Portrait in Art and Anecdotes.
