Mexico City Hosts 'Capital Forum: State of Mega-Cities Around the World'
Global Finance Leaders Gather to Address the Financial Challenges Facing Large Cities
MEXICO CITY, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mexico City Ministry of Finance announced today that it will host "Capital Forum: State of Mega-Cities Around the World," an international event jointly organized by the Government of Mexico City and the Economic and Social Council of Mexico City. The event will take place today at the Hilton Hotel, Avenida Juarez, Don Alberto Salon 4.
During the forum, key finance ministers and leaders from a number of global cities will discuss and assess the various financing systems utilized by cities around the world. The participants also will address the roles that municipal, regional and national governments can play in solving financial problems and promoting metropolitan economic development.
"In many cities, basic infrastructure and services are already stretched beyond capacity, which can stunt economic growth," said Mario Delgado Carrillo, Minister of Finance for Mexico City. "As more countries decentralize fiscal and administrative functions, city and regional governments will have to take on an increasingly larger role in financing capital improvements and facilitating local investment to ensure access to basic services and improve infrastructure as a means to attract business and strengthen cities' competitiveness. This forum gives financial leaders the opportunity to share their expertise and discuss practical solutions to the evolving financial challenges facing mega-cities today."
Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard will give the opening remarks, which will be followed by presentations and moderated panel discussions. During these sessions, participants will present their unique viewpoints on how their respective cities are handling the emerging trend of decentralized fiscal policies and planning, offering innovative solutions to address critical issues.
