MetTel Chosen by FEMA for Emergency Wireless Services
WASHINGTON and NEW YORK, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has chosen MetTel to provide emergency wireless services under a multi-vendor indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract through the MetTel Federal Portal, built on Bruin, an award-winning, intelligent communications platform.
A leader in communications and digital transformation, MetTel was also named to the GSA's $50 billion, 15-year Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract which provides federal agencies with mission-critical telecommunications, infrastructure, cyber security and information technology services.
MetTel was selected alongside the two largest carriers in the U.S. for its technical expertise in enterprise mobility, extensive coverage area and carrier agnostic approach that harnesses the connectivity of all the major carriers into one super network. While the primary purpose of the contract is to support the agency's nation-wide disaster recovery efforts, FEMA also reserves the right to issue task orders for non-emergency wireless services.
Under the new FEMA contract, MetTel will provide wireless service plans as well as the supporting mobile devices, such as phones, tablets, SIM cards, and related accessories. FEMA will issue task orders as needed and award projects based on technical acceptability, price and wireless network coverage. Each task order period of performance will vary. The FEMA IDIQ contract has a base period of one year with four, one year options that can be exercised at the discretion of FEMA.
FEMA, which was created by two Presidential Executive Orders in 1979, has a permanent National Preparedness Goal which supports "A secure and resilient nation with the capabilities required across the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk." These risks include events such as natural disasters, disease pandemics, chemical spills and other manmade hazards, terrorist attacks and cyber-attacks. For example, FEMA most recently helped residents of the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic prepare for and recover from the recent Hurricane Florence.
"For the nation's official crisis response agency to rely on MetTel to support its critical, life-saving work is a responsibility we take very seriously," stated MetTel CEO Marshall Aronow. "With our nimble responsiveness, customer-focused philosophy and agnostic approach to best in class technology and connectivity, MetTel is well-suited to assist FEMA in its core mission."
MetTel's wireless services utilize its own network plus those of the major wireless carriers to ensure coverage in all parts of the country both urban and rural. With this carrier integration capability, MetTel provides more coverage than any other single network provider. In addition, the company will provide its powerful, award winning tool, the MetTel Federal Portal which will enable FEMA to easily manage ordering, help desk, trouble tickets, credits, billing, inventory, services, and reporting from one simple, user-friendly interface available 24 x 7. The MetTel Federal Portal is a secure business support system that is designed to meet FISMA (moderate impact) certification. It is based on the MetTel Bruin® platform, which was named the Internet Telephony Product of the Year – 2016 by TMC. The MetTel Federal Portal uses sophisticated data analytics to enable federal agencies to obtain detailed insight and business intelligence regarding their communication configurations and budget management.
