Methodist Charlton Named One of Nation's Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by Joint Commission
DALLAS, Sept. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Methodist Charlton Medical Center today was named one of the nation's top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Methodist Charlton was recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia.
Methodist Charlton is one of only 405 US hospitals, 34 Texas hospitals, and 2 Dallas hospitals earning the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The 405 top-performing hospitals represent 14 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals that report core measure performance data.
"We understand that what matters most to our patients at Methodist Charlton Medical Center is safe and effective care. That's why Methodist Charlton has made a commitment to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. Methodist Charlton is proud to be named to the list of The Joint Commission's Top Performers on Key Quality Measures. I am personally grateful for the excellent care provided by our clinicians and physicians. It's their commitment and dedication to clinical excellence that drives these outcomes," says Methodist Charlton Medical Center President Jonathan Davis.
To be recognized as a top performer on key quality measures an organization must meet two 95 percent performance thresholds. First they must achieve a composite performance of 95 percent or above after the results of all the accountability measures for which they report data to The Joint Commission were factored into a single score, including measures that had less than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, they must meet or exceed a 95 percent performance target for every single accountability measure for which they report data, excluding any measures with less than 30 eligible cases or patients.
Methodist Charlton was recognized for achieving these thresholds for heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia.
"Today, the public expects transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals where they receive care, and The Joint Commission is shining a light on the top performing hospitals such as Methodist Charlton Medical Center that have achieved excellence on a number of vital measures of quality of care," says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president, The Joint Commission.
In addition to being included in today's release of The Joint Commission's "Improving America's Hospitals" annual report Methodist Charlton will be recognized on The Joint Commission's Quality Check website (www.qualitycheck.org).
Methodist Charlton has been named a top performer in a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Premier healthcare alliance value-based purchasing (VBP) project that rewards hospitals for delivering high quality care in five clinical areas; a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology; an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by American Stroke Association; and ranked in the top 10% in the nation for maternity care by HealthGrades.
