SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Message Systems, the world's #1 email infrastructure provider, today announced it has acquired Port25 Solutions, Inc. in a stock and cash deal. Port25 Solutions is the maker of the popular email delivery software product PowerMTA (PMTA), in use by thousands of companies around the world. The Port25 on-premise solution for medium-to-large-sized senders is the perfect complement to Message Systems' enterprise class Momentum product, which sends 20 percent of the world's legitimate email for very large senders, and the SparkPost cloud email services targeted at businesses of all sizes.
Port25's technology, customer base and staff will be combined into Message Systems as a stand-alone business unit that will continue to focus on serving the medium-to-large-sized sender market. The entire Port25 Solutions team will remain on staff at the company. In addition, John Karpovich will stay on as General Manager of Port25 Solutions and Juan Altmayer Pizzorno will remain as SVP Research and Development. Through the Port25 business unit, Message Systems will continue the support and development of the PowerMTA product.
"This acquisition definitively positions Message Systems to serve the email infrastructure needs of companies of all sizes — from developers at startups through to the world's largest senders with both cloud and on-premise solutions," said Phillip Merrick, CEO of Message Systems. "With the addition of the Port25 technology and staff, Message Systems is even better equipped to take its leadership position in email infrastructure into the cloud."
Previously, companies were forced to choose between low-cost and easy-to-use solutions and rich email infrastructure feature sets with performance and scalability. The integration of the Port25 technology and expertise will enable Message Systems to serve as the messaging platform provider for not only the extensive Port25 customer base, but for any company — today and in the future. As medium-to-large-sized businesses, including Port25's existing customers, grow and expand their own offerings into the cloud, they will require the more advanced capabilities and control that the Message Systems' solutions offer. "Those growing companies will have an easy upgrade path with their existing vendor that they can follow as their needs evolve over time," added Merrick. "Additionally, we expect many medium-to-large-sized businesses who now use Port25 will be interested in migrating to the cloud at some point. Here too, these customers will not have to switch vendors as we can easily transition them to our SparkPost offering."
Message Systems counts well-known global brands as customers, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Groupon and PayPal. These companies depend on Message Systems to reliably send billions of email messages every day for them.
Port25's customer base is also comprised of world-renowned brands that span various vertical markets, including Salesforce Marketing Cloud, SmartFocus (previously Emailvision), The New York Times, Oracle Responsys Marketing Suite, Microsoft, and Turner Broadcasting.
"We are very pleased to join forces with Message Systems, a company known for its industry leadership," said John Karpovich, CEO of Port25 Solutions, Inc. "Our companies share the vision that the cloud requires the kind of excellence we have consistently provided to a 'who's who' list of on-premise email infrastructure customers for more than a decade. Together, we commit to continue bringing our vast email experience — in the cloud and on-premise — to businesses of all sizes around the world."
