Meritize Names Chief Credit Officer
Sharma to Lead Credit Evaluation and Risk Analytics
DALLAS, May 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Meritize, an educational lender that leverages individual academic data to enhance credit evaluation and expand student lending, today announced the addition of Manu Sharma as Chief Credit Officer. Sharma will be responsible for the management of credit evaluation and risk analytics for student lending at Meritize, including underwriting, loan review process and policy, and default mitigation.
Sharma is a risk management and analytics professional with more than 12 years' experience in financial services. He brings significant strategic planning and execution management experience across multiple product lines, as well as executive expertise in credit, fraud and anti-money laundering risk analytics. Prior to joining Meritize, Sharma was an executive director at J.P. Morgan Chase, during which he managed risk analytics and helped build core risk infrastructure in consumer and small business banking and student lending. He also worked as a senior manager at Capital One, building default management strategies for the home loans division. Most recently, he was the chief risk officer at Able Lending, a small business lender.
"As we build the Meritize student lending platform with its proprietary use of academic data, we need a seasoned veteran like Manu who can establish a strong fundamental foundation, but also develop scalable infrastructure processes to keep up with the growth we anticipate for the private student lending market," said Chris Keaveney, CEO, Meritize. "Manu's experience and innovative approach to credit evaluation will serve us well, and I'm glad to have him round out our executive team."
Sharma has a Bachelor of Technology degree in manufacturing engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
