Mechanical Integrity (MI), also called Regulation Standard NR-13 Boilers and Pressure Vessels, was enacted in the early 1990's as a legal requirement for a large portion of Brazil's manufacturing industries. In 1994, compliance timelines were established for facilities to adopt the recommended practices outlined in the standard. The regulation refers to Brazil's minimum standards for engineering, manufacturing, installing, and operating pressure vessels and boilers.
According to Meridium Mechanical Integrity Product Manager Michael Warren, "The Meridium Mechanical Integrity solution with NR-13-compliant software improves safety, containment reliability and environmental compliance in high-risk industrial environments by identifying fixed-asset corrosion and containment threats. Once the threats are identified, companies can then prioritize activities and risk-mitigation strategies based on failure probabilities and consequences."
With this new release, Enterprise APM's baseline functionality is enhanced to support the collection and storing of the technical data required to create NR13-compliant inspection reports that align people and NR-13-compliant processes. Standalone or as part of a full-spectrum asset performance solution, Meridium Mechanical Integrity supports repeatable RAGAGEP-based best practices to drive increased uptime and cost-efficient asset utilization.
With the Meridium Mechanical Integrity software, a user is empowered to:
- Assess fixed equipment based on NR-13 guidelines.
- Develop and implement inspection plans using predefined and/or customer-defined inspection strategies.
- Execute tasks and document activities identified in the inspection plan.
- Facilitate compliance and manage risk at an optimum level using configurable reports, metrics and key performance indicators.
Warren also noted that, "By using Meridium Mechanical Integrity, the NR-13 assessment process can integrate and leverage data from the current inspection and thickness monitoring program results, as well as process historians and EAM systems. Consolidating and using existing and accurate data from disparate systems will help users work more efficiently, and significantly reduce the number of assumptions made during the risk evaluation."
