WASHINGTON, Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council announced today that Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese Christian who was sentenced to death for apostasy and spent months in a notoriously rank Sudanese prison with her toddler son and newborn daughter, will be honored at the Values Voter Summit gala dinner to be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The gala dinner will be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. and will be Meriam and her family's first public appearance since arriving in the United States on July 31.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments in announcing the plans to honor Meriam Ibrahim:
"We are pleased to announce that Meriam Ibrahim will be honored at this year's Values Voter Summit.
"Meriam's bold stand for Jesus Christ as she faced death has touched the hearts of people in every nation. Her incredible example of courage should inspire Christians in America to be bold and courageous in their faith as we witness growing religious hostility here in our country.
"Meriam honored God by standing strong in her faith despite imprisonment and a death sentence. Our hope and prayer is that Meriam's story will be shared as an encouragement to the thousands of Meriams who are looking toward America, hoping they are not forgotten and that someone will speak out on their behalf," concluded Perkins.
The ninth annual Values Voter Summit will be held from September 25-27 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. FRC Action's Values Voter Summit is cosponsored by AFA Action, American Values, Liberty Institute, Liberty Counsel, Liberty Counsel Action and Family Research Council. The Values Voter Summit annually draws thousands of social conservatives from across the country. Attendees will hear from national leaders who support religious liberty, natural marriage, the sanctity of human life, and a strong national defense including Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rick Santorum, Govs. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) and Mike Huckabee, Mark Levin, Lt. Col. Oliver North, Erick Erickson, Todd Starnes, David Limbaugh and the Benham Brothers among others. An exhibit hall, book signings, radio row, new media row and much more will be packed into this three-day conference.
