Merger Creates the Nation's Largest Air Taxi Service
Air Carriers Kavoo & ImagineAir join forces to serve the entire East Coast.
ATLANTA, Feb. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading air taxi providers Kavoo and ImagineAir announce a merger between the two companies, along with the completion of a round of private funding to create the largest air taxi company spanning the entire Eastern United States.
The company that launched the first dynamic online reservations system for on-demand private flights is now the first modern air taxi company to complete a successful merger. The companies plan to continue developing the air taxi industry on a large scale, and deliver on the promise to free regional travelers from the herded masses on highways and congested commercial airports.
The merger represents one of the biggest moves in the air taxi industry. "We've found that measured growth while continually refining the business model has lead to longevity and success. We're continuing to make personal aviation more affordable than anyone thought possible," remarked Ben Hamilton, CEO of ImagineAir.
Over a decade ago, NASA invested 70 million dollars in a program to revive general aviation in the United States. Dubbed the Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS), its goal was to divert travelers from highways and commercial airline hubs to the thousands of under-utilized airports in the United States not served by scheduled airlines. "Kavoo and ImagineAir have a great opportunity to fulfill the promises NASA envisioned many years ago," said Richard Humphrey, CEO of Kavoo.
The merger also combines the service area of both operators, growing ImagineAir's footprint to cover the entire Eastern seaboard. "Although our combined service area now covers the Eastern U.S., ImagineAir flights replace 3-8 hour drives to or from any city or town with a small airport," according to Hamilton.
ImagineAir plans to invest in infrastructure, and the further development of its proprietary fleet management and flight optimization software. "As we grow, technology will enable us to leverage optimization and create efficiencies across all facets of the company and our service," said Ryan Rodd, CTO of ImagineAir. "The reduced costs allow us to pass on incredible savings to travelers."
