Mercy Memorial Hospital Improves Healthcare Services with Trend Micro Enterprise Security
Best-in-class patient data protection solutions achieve proactive compliance, improve security posture, and realize higher ROI
CUPERTINO, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated announced today that Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Michigan, deployed Trend Micro™ Enterprise Security powered by the Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™ infrastructure to protect patient information, endpoints, email communications, and the Web gateway.
Mercy Memorial Hospital consists of a central hospital complex, 28 remote locations and offices, totaling over 900 desktop computers and 200 servers. An over-arching priority at Mercy Memorial Hospital System is HIPAA compliance and the protection of patient information, while ensuring business continuity.
"We have to have systems that ensure our patient information is always guarded," said Eric Mynster, the ITS operations manager for the healthcare organization. "We must go beyond simply meeting compliance requirements that target the protection of patients, and also integrate best practices for security within our business operations. We need to do everything we can to block viruses, spam, and other complex threats to security and productivity."
Risk assessment and prioritization is an ongoing activity within the organization, and IT wanted a security solution that could help with efforts to maintain a proactive stance for compliance and overall security. Mercy Memorial had been looking to deploy the best-in-class security solution that would easily align with their virtualized datacenter approach. After evaluating security products from many vendors, Mercy Memorial Hospital System selected Trend Micro Enterprise Security solutions.
"Trend Micro offered us the value of a complete package of antivirus, email filter, anti-spam and URL filtering," said Mynster. "After we looked at other vendors' demonstrations and compared costs and functionality it was a pretty easy decision. Trend Micro Enterprise Security was extremely competitive and covered all our needs."
Deploying Trend Micro Enterprise Security minimized IT time spent managing security and increased the up-time for Web protection and increased the value obtained from the existing virtual environment.
"ROI for virtualized solutions is better than physical server or proprietary appliance deployments," explained Mynster. "Our virtual solutions help us shrink our datacenter footprint, lower power requirements, consume fewer IT resources, and increase service levels. Trend Micro's virtual appliance is a bonus for us – it is certified for our VMware environment and integrates right into our platforms."
"The Trend Micro solutions have proven to require very little time from the IT team at Mercy Memorial, the solutions have been very self sufficient, we haven't had to babysit the Trend Micro solutions like other vendors' products," said Michael Connolly, senior systems engineer at Mercy Memorial. "The Trend Micro solutions have done a good job of safeguarding patient data as well as maximizing employees' productivity."
Mercy Memorial Hospital now employs the following Trend Micro Enterprise Security solutions: Trend Micro™ Enterprise Security for Endpoints; Trend Micro™ Hosted Email Security; and Trend Micro™ InterScan™ Web Security Virtual Appliance.
