SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt., May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Merchants Bank is proud to support Spectrum Youth and Family Services ("Spectrum") with a $5,000 donation to the Basic Needs and Stable Homes programs. Funding will help vulnerable youth with critical support including meals, material needs, shelter, housing and improved connections to community support services.
Last winter, the Spectrum Drop-In Center published a magazine called BTV Street Chronicles, containing testimonials, writing, and artwork from Burlington's homeless youth. A youth named Brian shared this statement:
"The need for work for me is real…without work, I'd return to daily drug use. I decided it was time to do computer applications (at the drop-in center). The next week after doing so, I received a call for an interview!!! This was the happiest I've been since becoming sober in January 2014."
Cheryl Houchens, Merchants Bank's Community Reinvestment and Compliance Officer, stated, "At Merchants Bank, we value the services that Spectrum provides to our communities and know that our grant will help individuals like Brain with immediate needs, such as finding a job."
Mark Redmond, Executive Director of Spectrum Youth and Family Services affirmed, "We are so grateful to Merchants Bank for supporting our Drop-In Center and residential programs. Their generosity will help make sure our doors open for the next youth who needs food or a place to live."
